Please read: Docents play an important role here at FAM. Our volunteer docents lead school field trips, adult group tours, and daily tours. There are also volunteer opportunities for our public programs and special events.
Here's a bit more about the docent training program, which is more time-intensive than other volunteer positions:
- The next docent class will take place from January to April 2027
- Trainees are expected to attend four months of training and onboarding
- Classroom training will take place on Tuesdays and Sundays from 1–4 p.m., January 5 - April 4, 2027
- Trainees may attend the Tuesday and/or Sunday sessions, but 80% classroom attendance is required
- 12 hours of self-scheduled tour shadowing/practice tours are required in April
- There will be readings and reflection workshops, among other assignments, to complete between classroom meetings
- Docent candidates should have regular weekday daytime availability
- Once "cleared" to give tours, docents are required to serve 12 tour hours per quarter to remain active in the program
- The docent program is a long-term commitment. Please consider if you can commit to the training and at least two years of active volunteer service before you apply.
Benefits include:
